Missions work is an important facet of the Roslindale Congregational Church. We take an active role in supporting many ongoing missions, for example:
The church supports local neighborhoods with a weekly food pantry. Donations of food are gathered, organize, and distributed to families in the greater Roslindale area.
Looking beyond our neighborhood, we contribute to a number of missions. We contribute to Heifer International globally and Overlook Farm locally. Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA is a Heifer-sponsored 270-acre working farm, which educates the public about world hunger, poverty, and sustainable solutions through animal agriculture.
Other missions that we support include ABCD Southside ESL, City Missions Society, Home Base, The Family Nurturing Center, and the International Rescue Committee.
Each year we collect school supplies for teachers at the Sumner Elementary School and the Haley K-8 Pilot School. Acting upon the Christmas spirit of giving, we also donate new children’s clothing and outerwear to the City Mission Society’s annual Christmas Shop, which distributes these to needy families.
Past Missions projects:
For several years, we donated baby and family gifts as well as a check to the Family Nurturing Center, a community-based non-profit whose mission is to help others build nurturing communities where children are cherished, families are supported, and healthy human development is promoted.
In 2005, we collected backpacks and school supplies that were sent to an elementary school in Mississippi that was operating out of Quonset huts after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the school. In 2010, the church sponsored a fundraiser for Haiti following the earthquake. Donations were sent through the United Church of Christ’s Our Church’s Wider Mission. In 2013, we collected a number of large boxes of clothing and other donated items that were sent to the Philippines for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
